Steinhausen: Travel Advisory

Remember how stressed out we were re: our move? Amplify by 1,000,000 times and you have a good picture of us now!

The issue of key importance: our temporary accommodation is inconveniently located on the outskirts of Zug, on the outskirts of Steinhausen (yes, that's two outskirtses). Steinhausen is a village 1 hour away from Zurich; it boasts one (1) cornfield and one (1) gas station.

We went to look at our place on Sunday (after a lovely lunch with The Boss and The Boss's Wife); Swiss Mister thought checking out the place would make Swiss Miss feel better...then, they saw the cornfield... Also, the construction site across from the grey isolation tank they are supposed to call home ("home" pictured here, at left).

We have gone back to our relocation people to tell them the cornfield is not acceptable. We are supposed to move on Wednesday morning...the morning Ian is supposed to start work. Other troubles include our inability to register with the Cantonal authorities (given that we do not have a Zug address), and that everybody in Switzerland moves on April 1, meaning that all the apartments are now snapped up.

If you have a hankering for anything Swiss, I respectfully suggest driving through Steinhausen in order to reach the mountains, the city, or the countryside. Feel free to stop for gas.

  1. Swiss people are just plain weird.. don't they all have secret dungeons beneath their houses too?

  2. They're just trying to keep up with the Austrians in that regard. It's like the Joneses, but more insidious.
