To my credit, I didn't start crying until the nice man at the Canadians in Distress Emergency Consular Hotline (which I picture as a bat-phone line, direct to Ottawa) told me that, yeah, I was probably a bit screwed on this one.
Apparently, handing my passport in to the UK Consulate-General's Office for visa processing* on May 20 was cutting it a bit close, and now I might not get it back in time for our pre-wedding flight home. You think brides get stressy about matching linens and rose petals? I clearly took the panic to the next level. After all, I'd already been worried about volcanoes and body rashes, so this next apocalyptic development was, well, apocalyptic.
You can flash through the hours of crying (notice how there are no pictures with this post?) to my 6.04 train to Geneva this morning. Swiss Miss, with a change of clothes in her purse, was prepared to stay for as long as necessary to get her passport, but that all turned out not to be necessary: the UK Consulate had sent it to the pick-up place this very morning, and, at 9.15am, I had my passport in hand, complete with approved visa.
Bring on the champers! This bride is celebrating early!
Now all we have to do is get Banana on the plane... Yes, the little dude is coming home for a while to stay with Swiss Miss' Auntie Ferne and his new cat frenemy June. As soon as we're back from the wedding and mini-honeymoon (a last-minute trip to Turkey, wethinks?), we'll try to get ourselves settled and the furriest member of the family back into the fold.**
*UK visa what-now? Yes, we may (or may not) be moving to London. But that is for another blog...
** You think I have visa trauma? The proverbial hoops Banana has to jump through might as well be (proverbially) flaming.

ReplyDeleteYes - exactly what I was thinking...
OMG. I was sort of holding my breath just reading this post. Thank goodness it has all worked out. The force is with you. Safe flights home.
ReplyDeleteWe swore "never again" after the visa craziness we experienced in coming to Switzerland, but we seem to be gluttons for punishment. Or, I do...
ReplyDeleteThe REAL problem is that Swiss Miss is not an EU citizen. And not even this "getting married" thing changes that. At least not immediately...
And London. Yes, we will blog more once we have something more definite to say -- right now definitely-maybe-we-don't-know is the best we can do, but we are getting our ducks in a row, hence the UK visa. Jon, maybe we can crash with you, Michelle and Ruby for a while? :)
