“A screw loose? For me it’s not a handicap.”

What is with the Swiss and their in-your-face media campaigns concerning disabled people?(Remember this one: "Disabled people only cost us money"?)

Listen here for the new campaign, this time featuring mentally disabled theatre performers...

  1. Woah...talk about offensive. I'm inclined to agree on the previous posts when you initially blogged about it. Phase 1 & 2 need to go hand in hand, but clearly, there hasn't been much of a fracas around it. It kind of reminds me of those bad movies that try to be satirical by throwing in crap loads of stereotypes, but are never able to provide any real thoughtful criticisms about them. And the result is a film that reinforces the stereotypes rather than breaks them down.

  2. I'm mostly baffled by the campaigns... What, exactly, are they trying to promote? Diversity? Equality? Visibility?

Perhaps that's a good thing, as disabled people do seem rather invisible here -- if I didn't know better, I'd swear that all Swiss people are mountain-climbing, muesli-eating, early-to-bed workaholics. Who eat cheese and bratwurst. Non-stop.
