Home is where your contractual obligation lies...

In order to give up our apartment in Zurich and move to London (not to worry Bloggership, a London update is coming...) we are required to give a whopping three months' notice. Maybe it's just us and our free-wheelin' lifestyle, but does anybody plan that far ahead? I mean, really. Three months? Eternity! And definitely not conducive to speedy decision making, the likes of which is characteristic of your Swiss Miss and Mister.

Further complicating the issue is that it's not just any three months -- no, we must give three months' notice in advance of end-September or end-March, the only times of the year we are contractually allowed to vacate our apartment. What???

Math whizzes will note that the end-September notice period deadline passed quite some time ago, so if Swiss Mister and Miss want to divest themselves of their apartment before March 31, 2011 (and they do!), they need to produce one solvent and charming potential new tenant. The hunt is on! Not that it will be that difficult, given the rabid rental market here...but still. This blog is all about shameless self-promotion, so may we present: OUR APARTMENT! We know there are a few Switzies out there who read this thing, and we have been promising homefronters snaps for ages now, so...

...without further ado, Wilkommen...

Ah, the front foyer, the gateway to your urban oasis.
What's that on the wall? Art by loyal blog-reader Rika?
Only the best Chez Swiss Mister and Miss.

More art! And flowers! How charming!

The living room. Hello, Carpet. You're looking well.
Ragin' Ray originals on the walls. What style! What culture!

A quiet book nook? Yes, please.
Also, a Rika-made pillow to snuggle up with? Mon Dieu!

To dine beneath this chandelier is to understand Voltaire:
"Nothing would be more tiresome than eating and drinking
if God had not made them a pleasure as well as a necessity."

The kitchen. Why is it green? Good question.
All we know is that it has a dishwasher, which works hard for its money.

The study (aka Arbeitszimmer) and guest room,
home to many a weary traveller.

The bedroom is mostly bed. It is, however, a fantastic bed.

May I point out the American-sized washer and dryer?
So essential in Switzerland:
no sharing or annoying laundry schedules for us!

If someone you know has the wild idea of moving to Zurich in the next month or so, please link him or her to this post. Don't show the complain-y parts of this blog, though. That might work against us...

  1. Your apt looks LOVELY! We have friends who are moving from London to Zurich very soon. Maybe I should put you guys in touch? You probably remember them from the wedding. Ronny sang dressed in a national costume. Hard to forget. xox
PS you move soon? Where are you staying?

  2. Yes, definitely send your friends our way, ASAP!!! I do remember Ronny -- bus captain, yes? We were at the same table, with his (now) wife? It would definitely be our preference to hand over the apartment to someone we know (pass on a little bit of our expat apartment luck). We are a bit flexible on timing -- we could move out at the end of August or the end of September -- and we still have to find some place in London. Maybe we will enter the marketplace as home buyers?!?! Eeek!
