Glasgow, where paperwork goes to die

I'd applied for a National Insurance number (basically the equivalent of a Canadian SIN), and I'd heard nothing. So it was time for a little follow-up phone call to the processing centre...in Glasgow.

Here is an artist's representation of the call centre representative I spoke with:

If I understood him correctly (note: not guaranteed in any way, shape, or form), my application has been cancelled! Why? The form needs to be sent out, returned, and processed within 21 days, and mine wasn't...so, deleted. Seeing as I applied very speedily, and had not even been in the country for a week at the point of application, I put the blame squarely on the processing side. The Glaswegian side.

They are sending more forms. Hope is slim.

  2. Interesting... I wonder if this has anything to do with making sure the call centre's response time statistics look good? Maybe I'm just a cynic.
