Travels and travellers

Swiss Miss was on the move today, travelling to Leicester on an early morning train from St. Pancras. She got to thinking that a travel update was in order...

First, the Swisses aren't going anywhere anytime soon. In order for the Miss to apply for her residency card here in the UK, both Mister and Miss have had to send their passports away with the Missus' application. The review process takes -- waaaaaait for it -- six months, but our immigration lawyer can request that we get our documents back in the next few weeks. We'll have to send our ID back AGAIN once before any permissions get issued, but in the meantime we should be able to continue our jet-set lives. Here's hoping this won't turn into another passport fiasco just before Christmas!

Although we are temporarily embargoed, our friends and family are not! Our first official visitor, Rita (aka The Cuz), met us in town and treated us to a lovely dinner and catch-up session. Highly recommended, the cozy little restaurant Caravan, which gets 4 out of 5 stars in Time Out London:

The casual vibe and industrial-funky design - rough wooden tables, white pipework, an enamel jug filled with yellow daisies, light fittings made from old-fashioned cow-milking bottles - are part of the appeal, but the food is the main draw.

There are large dishes, but most people choose the small plates, and share. Expect a parade of unusual, international tastes (chef is New Zealander Miles Kirby, late of The Providores).

All too soon, however, we were jumping in a black cab (lesson learned) to whisk Rita off to her hotel, and from there to King's Cross, where her journey continued...

Also on the journey list was a trip to the National Theatre -- the tickets were a wedding gift from Pasha, the guy who introduced us. Thanks, Pasha. We had a great time. (PS you're forgiven for not awarding me the Journey Prize.) The play was called Or Your Could Kiss Me, and Swiss Mister described it thusly:
Imagine Waiting for Godot meets Team America World Police meets Golden Girls meets Baywatch, but for gay South African white men, and you have an idea.
