Day 1 was rather cloudy, so, being Swiss and totally spoiled by mountain splendour, S. and T. took the day off from skiing and sent us out on our own. Not such a bad thing, as Swiss Miss was getting used to her new early birthday present skis (thank you, Swiss Mister!) and needed to be slow and sucky for the first little bit... This smiling shot happened before an initial bout of tears:
After finding my ski-legs, we were happy to cruise through the fog with our friends Max and Alesha, who were hosting our other friends Harsh and Hannah, fresh from Helsinki. Here's me with Max, taking in the view, such as it was through the fog:
Day 2 was extremely sunny, so we were able to see everything we'd been missing the day before! Check out some snaps Swiss Mister captured on iPhone:
Laax has 2,000 metres of skiing vertical, with Vorab Gletscher (aka Vorab Glacier) clocking in at a whopping 3,018m! Despite the signage, the mountain is anything but crap:
A lovely day with lovely Swiss friends! Clearly, all that hiking up mountains earlier this year gives us new joy in sliding down them in the winter.

It's me, Carrie. Come back to Toronto! I miss you guys and we have crap here you can ski on (sort of).

Hi, Carrie! Why don't YOU come to Switzerland for a visit??? We can go skiing and fondue-eating...maybe even travelling to visit Jon and Michelle???
ReplyDeleteOur guest room has been empty lately, and hang-to-dry laundry is a poor substitute for visiting friends.
Snow and skiing. Looks like you had an amazing weekend and I am a little jealous. I missed out on skiing this vacation due to my "condition" so we just played in the snow instead. I LOVE SNOW AND WINTER! Take care of each other, xox
ReplyDeleteHi, Whisky Widow!
ReplyDeleteWe saw evidence of your snow-playing over at your blog -- excellent snowmen! We liked the jaunty Norwegian scarf-wearing guy, and we were flat out amazed by the sheer size of the other Uberschneemann!
In a few years, we'll have your little one on skis. Finally, I'll have somebody to ski with who goes at my pace! ;)
