Swiss Mister and Miss -- the new Punch and Judy...or Mr. and Mrs. Kong?

Work is going well these days...at least for Swiss Miss! I have three new editing clients. They're all academics, working in fields suspiciously close to those of my undergraduate days... Swiss Mister, on the other hand, is applying for jobs. As you may have read, we've decided to blow this Bratwurst stand at some point in the not-too-distant future, and the time for looking is now. London is the next city that seems to be calling, but this Miss' heart still dreams of New York. In fact, according to this Time Out New York quiz, I could take a pretty good bite out of the Big Apple, at least for a little while:

DO YOU BELONG IN NYC?

Yes, but sometimes you wish there were a better option.
You do love New York, and you fit in here better than you have anywhere else. You're committed to the city, and you take advantage of all of its amazing food, culture, nightlife and arts. But you have nagging doubts about this relationship. Spend your whole life here? Not sure about that. Sometimes you wonder about that farm in your fantasies or even just a smaller city. But in reality, you know there's nowhere better.

If only we could get US work permits...

  1. Hi Swiss Miss with big apple dreams, article in Toronto Star all about young super talented Canadian women in the big apple. You could be one of them. Here is the link info.

  3. That Nick Mount-delivered factoid (I know him from UofT) is crazy:

"In his book, When Canadian Literature Moved to New York, University of Toronto professor Nick Mount suggests 50 per cent of better-known Canadian writers moved there in the late 19th century."

The power of a writing community is something I really miss here in Zurich. It's such a sustaining, ass-kicking force. I'm sure that exodus of Canadian writers created a real vacuum of energy in Canada -- a vacuum that, I think, is still there...

That quiz IS long! (I scored 79.)

  5. I think you actually get extra points for lying.

  6. Funny quiz but YES too long! According to Time Out I got 94 points so I do belong here for now but do dream of another option. That is about right I feel. For now NYC is a great place to live but the future has other plans for us. I cannot see this norwegian socialist paying $35000 per child per year for schooling!

  7. So I guess that means we better move there fast, right, Swiss Mister?

    (Just kidding...mostly.)
