Friday was date night, courtesy of Swiss Mister scoring some free tickets from Ron Orp for Funny Laundry, an English stand-up comedy show. Lots of larfs, lots of beer, and lots of second-hand smoke. Check out the haze at intermission! Zurich is banning smoking in public places starting May 1, 2010, so the rush is on to pollute your surroundings as much as possible before then.
Saturday saw a visit from Swiss Miss' cousin Phil and his girlfriend Sasha, fresh from a ski training camp in Zermatt. It was an appropriately-timed visit, given that Expovina is taking place, and the annual boat-based wine-tasting festival is at Burkliplatz, a mere 5 minutes from the SMandM HQ. The only challenge, of course, was bobbling between boats after we had been there for a while...

In the afternoon, we returned the carpet we had borrowed on consignment -- not quite a match for our decor -- but what do you think of this new contender? I'm worried it's too pink.
In the evening, we headed to Alesha's Hallowe'en party! Pictures will have to wait until Brenda and Bob arrive with the long-forgotten-in-Muskoka camera cord, but I will tell you that Swiss Miss was Jackie O. and Swiss Mister was a black bear, and we were both wearing ridiculous hats. Since Hallowe'en isn't really celebrated here, we definitely got some point-and-laughs and double-takes from people as we walked over...
Sunday was picture-perfect for a Velo-adventure, so we cruised Bike Path 94 for a few hours, going from Zurich to Langnau and back again, taking in the beautiful fall colours. Swiss Mister got a little tired, but Swiss Miss' "thunder thighs" served her remarkably well!
Then it was Indian take-out with Max and Alesha...really, just an excuse for the four of us to geek out and play Settlers of Catan (which, we recently found out, is pronounced "Ca-tahn" by the good people at Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/mpd/permalink/m1MNKVLPTPB171) As the saying goes, you can take the nerds out of Canada...
See how much fun life is here? If you were contemplating a visit, book now! The SMandM Hotel is already booking up for the month of November!

Side note: Settlers Of Catan now for iPhone
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with pink?
ReplyDeleteWe wanted red. We also wanted some green to go with our furniture, and this one seems a little heavy on the blue.
ReplyDeleteSoC for iPhone??? How would that work??? Swiss Mister wants to buy it.
Brenda, pink is a banned colour in Persian Carpet Land. The trangressors are stoned, then the carpets are shipped to New Orleans Brothels at a reduced rate.
ReplyDeleteHalloween enjoyed here at least 100 farm kids parachuted into Laurelview Candyland. Much fun.
Phil and Sasha visit: Bobbing is fun. Just don't do it for French Fries. No matter what people say.
