New President

As I mentioned in a comment on Monday's blog, some Swiss women didn't get the right to vote in local elections until 1990. Nine-zero.

Now, however, dames is running the country. From WRS:

It’s now official: Economics Minister Doris Leuthard will be president of Switzerland next year. Parliament elected the Christian Democrat politician to the rotating presidency yesterday. That means the deal is sealed: Switzerland’s legislature and executive will be run exclusively by women next year. At the end of the year Leuthard will take over from Hans Rudolf Merz, whose presidency this year has often been described as “rocky.”

But how does she feel about minarets? Seeing as she's from the Christian Democratic People's Party, I can guess...
