Solar boat marks 'beginning of a new era'
A futuristic Swiss boat, designed to sail around the world by solar power alone, has been unveiled at a shipyard in northern Germany. The makers of PlanetSolar say that at 30 metres long, it’s the largest solar powered boat in the world. It’s been designed and developed by an international team of physicists, engineers and boat builders. Our reporter Vincent Landon was at the presentation ceremony in Kiel and has this report: http://worldradio.ch/wrs/news/switzerland/solar-boat-marks-beginning-of-a-new-era.shtml?18086
From the Co-Skipper:
"I'm not going to pretend that the boat of tomorrow...commercial boat...will be driven with solar panels. It would be ridiculous."

The Swiss being land-locked and all, may not realize that there already are massive boats using solar as a prime energy source. They should peek over those mountains once in a while. To answer Swiss Miss.. I think solar converted to Turbine energy probably zips you along a bit faster, but then how much energy and resources are actually used producing this technological marvel. A good question for those two guys playing pirates .. probably in the middle of some huge warehouse.
ReplyDeleteIt IS hard to set sail from Switzerland... And northern Germany doesn't sound like the sunniest place ever...
