Yesterday was moving day. We assumed that our movers would arrive early to pick up our air freight. We assumed correctly, and luckily had clothes on when they rang our bell at 7:15am. They took off with our stuff to get the other dudes (and a permit from the police to park in front of our new house), and we rode our iron horses into the rising sun.
Did we mention that our new place is on the fourth floor...and there's no elevator? And it was built in about 1430 and the entryways and floors are crooked? Sorry, movers! We're glad you exist (except when you break stuff...but overall, yes, we're still happy). Good thing, too, that I just finished the "furniture/apartment" unit in German school: "Hier ist das Wohnzimmer, hier ist das Arbeitszimmer. Ich habe eine Katze in das Bad," etc.
The view from above. And so it begins. Those tables and chair are from the restaurant/bar below us,
So. Much. Stuff.
To move our couches up this, the movers basically rotated themselves around/up the stairs and kept the couch in the centre. Crazy.
The stairwell also facilitated a "human chain" approach to moving. Here's the view just outside our door.
Swiss Mister and his worldly goods.
Um, starting to get concerned.
We have also realized there are some rather pesky pigeon neighbours, not less than two metres from our windows out back. Can you spot the dead pigeon in this picture? His decomposing wing is hanging over the ledge. (click to embiggen)
We also have some baby pigeons in the neighbour's window opposite our bedroom. We don't quite have the heart to kill babies. So we figure we will wait a few weeks before destroying their home with curtain rod jabs. Seems fair.
We are internetting from Starbucks until we get sorted out, but keep tuning in, as we will be posting more pictures of the finished apartment sometime soon!

Banana!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! And don't bother messing around with a curtain rod to get rid of those pigeons. If I learned anything from Inder's bachelor weekend, it is that air rifles are really fun.
ReplyDeletei vote for super soakers. i think they would work for our feral cat problem but i don't quite have the heart. but pigeons...
ReplyDeletecongrats on the new place and getting settled.
